Sleepless in Beijing

Well, it's 2:30 in the morning and I can't sleep. We've still been waking up at about one every night, but Roger and Danny have gotten back to sleep. (Oops, Roger just got up again.) We barely got any supper into Danny when he conked out on Roger's lap last night -- exhausted from our touring and a trip to the hotel pool. Now I am kept awake by a slight headache and by the awareness that we have just one more day in Beijing, and the very next day we'll meet our daughter. This is a thrilling thought after all our waiting, but I am uneasy about all the unknowns. I love to know what's coming and to be as prepared as possible, but I just have to trust God on this one. We have done all we could to be ready, but only He knows what's in store for all of us. Danny's Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Kantor, sent him a lovely note a few days ago with a scripture passage from Joshua 1 that I need to preach to myself now: "I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." How appropriate, since the Israelites were also heading into unknown territory, with just the promises of God to cling to...

Missed you guys today. Roger, we had to have a substitute elder for communion! The international luncheon was great -- as usual, lots of good food.

Look forward to celebrating with you when you return.
